A meeting between Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and US National Security Adviser John Bolton has concluded in Geneva, a source close to the negotiations said.
The talks, held on the premises of the Unites States’ mission to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, lasted for more than five hours. The prospects for resuming dialogue in the wake of US sanctions, including talks on strategical stability, the Syria issue and the Ukrainian conflict, topped the agenda.
Bolton is expected to hold a press conference at the US mission, while Patrushev will make a statement elsewhere. They plan neither to jointly address the media nor sign any documents.
The meeting took place behind closed doors. Reporters were not even allowed to hear opening statements. Photos taken at the meeting were later released by the US mission’s press service.
