Turkish authorities detained one person in relation to the shooting outside the US Embassy Ankara, the state-run Anadolu news agency said on Monday. The US Embassy came under brief gunfire early on Monday but nobody was hurt in the incident.
It coincided with increased tensions between the two NATO allies over the trial of a US pastor in Turkey. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s spokesman condemned the attack as an attempt “to create chaos,” Reuters reported. The Turkish Foreign Ministry said it had increased security measures for the embassy and other US missions and employees in Turkey.
