Turkish authorities have released a total of 25 Kurdish migrants after they were arrested en route to Europe, an official confirmed.
Head of Kurdistan Region’s Migrant’s Federation, Ari Jalal, told BasNews that the 25 migrants will arrive at the international airports in Erbil and Baghdad on Thursday.
He said the federation has proceeded with the legal issues of bringing back the arrested migrants from Turkey, and other groups will arrive in the upcoming weeks.
Following the fall of Mosul to the Islamic State (IS), hundreds of thousands of people from Iraq headed towards the European countries for a better life.
Though the Kurdistan Region was a safe haven during the war, thousands from the Kurdistan Region also joined the flow. Some of them have been arrested by Turkish border guards for trying to cross the country’s border illegally.
