Iraq: Karbala residents hit streets to protest living conditions

Hundreds of people took to the streets of Karbala on Friday, as part of nationwide protests over growing economic hardships and poor social conditions in the country.

Protesters held banners, waved Iraqi flags and chanted slogans, demanding action to be taken to remedy the situation.

The unrest began last month in the southern oil-rich province of Basra and has been ongoing amid economic hardships, high unemployment rates and poor municipal services in the country.
