A court in Seoul sentenced jailed former South Korean President Park Geun-hye to an additional eight years in prison, at a hearing on Friday. She is currently serving 24 years for abuse of power and corruption following her impeachment last year.
Six of the additional years were given for illegally accepting funds from the South Korean spy agency. The other two were given for interference in elections. Park herself did not show up for Friday’s hearing at Seoul Central District Court, having boycotted the hearings. She says she is innocent of the charges.
