There is “no reason” to talk about any possible resignation of German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Secretary General Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer said at a press conference in Berlin on Monday.
“As long as he pursues a policy, which goes in line with the grand coalition agreement, there is no reason, in my opinion, to talk about a resignation,” she said.
Druing the last few months, the German governing coalition has faced a serious crisis caused by the dispute between Angela Merkel’s CDU and Horst Seehofer’s Christian Social Union (CSU) parties over migration and asylum policy, with Seehofer wanting to take a more hardline stance on the issue and with Merkel pushing to pursue a common European solution.
