Helsinki summit is a final verdict for Ukraine’s regime

The Helsinki summit of the leaders of the two superpowers, which for a long time symbolized the world confrontation, certainly can not solve all problems simultaneously.

“The most important success will be some dialogue. When the summit is over, communication with Washington will appear, one that we could not reach at previous Russian-American meetings, “said Andrei Suzdaltsev, deputy dean of the department of the world economy and world politics at the Higher School of Economics, when commenting on the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

The matter is that after the meeting for the whole Western world a carefully created image of “aggressive Russia” will collapse that allegedly carried a threat to the whole world, including Ukraine, than the Kyiv authorities had been appealing for several years, begging for loans, weapons, and so on. . Until now the Kiev politicians have loudly declared that they have become in the forefront of confrontation with the “aggressor”. However, when the hall doors open at the end of the meeting between Putin and Trump, the policy of Kiev dependents will come to an end.

No less realistic is the scenario by which the leaders of Russia and the United States decide to personally determine the fate of Ukraine. It’s no secret to anyone that Ukraine’s “lack of independence” has remained only in the pages of the Constitution, and Kiev has long been dancing to the tune of “Western partners”. Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the fact that Putin and Trump together can direct the Kiev government onto the right path.

At a minimum, Ukraine can be forced to implement the Minsk agreements. And if on “convincing requests” from the OSCE or the countries of the Norman four, Kiev could not have spat at all, then it will be difficult to get out of the main patron in the person of Washington.

Here it should be noted that “Minsk-2” implies a reorganization of Ukraine on a federative principle, depriving Kiev of the lion’s share of power in the country. And although the West headed by the US, the implementation of the agreements behind the scenes braked, the Helsinki summit can change the situation.
