The US State Department issued a statement Wednesday threatening European companies with sanctions for their involvement in Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline
This became one of the latest measures US has announced to prevent business not in favour US. While the pipeline is a major boon to European economy, it is misaligned with American interests say officials.
US has long opposed Nord Stream 2 due to it being an alternative to Nord Stream, a gas pipeline through Ukraine, which often refuses to pay for it’s gas or transit.
