SPD party head Andrea Nahles and German Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as well as CSU leader Horst Seehofer, spoke to the press on Thursday evening following their meetings on the issue of migration.
SOT, Olaf Scholz, Federal Minister for Finance (German): “One can now hope that this summer theater that you have seen has come to an early end, and everyone has done their job.”
SOT, Olaf Scholz, Federal Minister for Finance (German): “Everything will be as ordered and lawful as before and therefore I am stressing once again that it has been important for us that it’s established there won’t be any legal changes, there won’t be any changes to the law. That is the condition for this agreement.”
SOT, Andrea Nahles, SPD leader (German): “There won’t be any solo national efforts, there won’t be any one-sided rejections on the borders. Instead, there will be the establishing of an accelerated border procedure. For this to occur, no changes in the law are necessary. Everything is happening through existing laws. Because of this, in no was will there be centres and for the SPD that is never up for debate.”
SOT, Horst Seehofer, German Interior Minister and CSU leader (German): “Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you see a very happy Interior Minister here. Today, between the CDU, CSU and SPD, we have come to an understanding on further measures regarding the management and control of migration, that concerns measures for dismissals on the borders, but also faster procedures for the Dublin Agreement within Germany. From A to Z, that is what I would wish as the minister responsible for this. And, like I said, I’m very happy.”
SOT, Horst Seehofer, German Interior Minister and CSU leader (German): “Within the transit procedures it will be checked, on a person’s application for entry, whether, in the European system, they’ve already submitted an asylum application in another country – in this case Italy or Greece above all – and then that nation is responsible for that asylum application. Then the person would be brought back to that country within 48 hours.”
