Expert: “Pashinyan’s anti-corruption measures is a popularity farce”

A loud, but ineffective fight against corruption resembles a show rather than real policy, political scientist Yervand Bozoyan said.

“It’s both a struggle and a show at the same time. The question of it’s effectiveness is a complicated one as we don’t know their roadmap on further fight against corruption” says political expert.

“The whole thing reeks of a PR stunt where they try to increase their ratings before another round of emergency elections. So while they might actually be trying to do something to that effect, it is only for the benefit of a show.”

However, according to Bozoyan, the strategy of Nikol Pashinyan cannot be called “ineffective”, even if it isn’t effective in the right way.

With the series of scandalous arrests, anti-corruption raids he plunged the population into as tate of euphoria, giving them an illusion of triumph of justice, all while concealing the fact that it’s not doing much to actually combat the issue.

“People still have no idea what this is all leading up to, the logic of the processes behind it and what possible benefits could it have on society and economy” says Bozoyan.

Bozoyan adds that he remains hopeful that the facade of righteousness will be dropped and the people will be able to see the real effectiveness of Pashinyan’s anti-corruption charade, as it would allow them to somberly demand resolution of issues in social, medical and business spheres.
