If German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s plans to find a European solution for the tense situation at Europe’s borders will succeed, there will be no need for national solo actions, German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said in Berlin Wednesday.
Speaking at an interview following an event which both Seehofer and Merkel were attending, the Interior Minister had to face questions over the party dispute between the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Bavarian-based Christian Social Union (CSU) within the German government, stating that, although Merkel’s and his ultimate aims are coherent, the approaches differ. “Whether we find common ground, we will find out in the next 14 days,” Seehofer concluded.
Germany’s CDU and CSU parties are currently in a dispute over the Interior Minister’s masterplan for migration.
