The largest opposition party in Macedonia, VMRO, DPMNE believes that the agreement on the new name of the country, which Prime Minister Zoran Zaev concluded with Greece, is capitulation.
As the leader of this party Christian Mickoski said, Zaev agreed to all the conditions of Greece.
“If Zaev tries to promote this treaty in the Assembly (parliament), he must understand that a referendum is needed,” said the Macedonian politician.
Macedonia will be called the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said at a special press conference on Tuesday after a telephone conversation with his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras. The solution of the Greco-Macedonian sprawl around the name opens Macedonia’s way to the EU and NATO.
