Romania: Protesters in capital call for government resignations

Some 3,000 protesters gathered in Bucharest’s Victory Square on Sunday, to oppose state corruption, the day after a government rally against anti-corruption prosecutors.

Protesters chanted for the government centre-left Social Democratic Party (PSD) to “resign” and lighting up the evening sky with their mobile phones.

Courts recently approved the dismissal of Romania’s chief anti-corruption prosecutor Laura Kovesi.

Government supporters believe she had too much power and abused her office.
