Homs-Hama highway reopens to public for first time in 7 years

Cars, motorbikes and buses were seen driving along the Homs-Hama highway (M-5 Highway) on Wednesday, after the Syrian government re-opened the road to the public for the first time in more than seven years.

The highway, which has been used for providing humanitarian aid to the city of Al-Rastan, was re-opened to the public after extensive reconstruction was completed.

The road was closed for years because of a high presence of militants in the area. It was re-opened following the liberation of the northern countryside of Homs by the Syrian army.
