President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the Russia investigation “will be MEDDLING with the mid-term elections” in November, suggesting that special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe is intended to harm the political fortunes of the GOP while it should be examining misconduct that Trump has accused Democrats of.
“The 13 Angry Democrats (plus people who worked 8 years for Obama) working on the rigged Russia Witch Hunt, will be MEDDLING with the mid-term elections, especially now that Republicans (stay tough!) are taking the lead in Polls. There was no Collusion, except by the Democrats!” the president wrote on Twitter on Tuesday morning.
“Why aren’t the 13 Angry and heavily conflicted Democrats investigating the totally Crooked Campaign of totally Crooked Hillary Clinton,” Trump wrote in a follow-up post. “It’s a Rigged Witch Hunt, that’s why! Ask them if they enjoyed her after election celebration!”
Trump’s reference to “13 Angry Democrats” is a jab at Mueller’s team of investigators, which the president and his allies have complained is stacked with Democrats and critics of the administration, even though Mueller himself is a registered Republican. Trump has long decried Mueller’s investigation as a “witch hunt” ginned up by embarrassed Democrats as an excuse for Democrat Hillary Clinton’s surprising loss in the 2016 election.
In another Tuesday morning post, Trump suggested he would refocus his energy away from Mueller’s probe, a subject that has to date proven irresistible for him online, and toward other priorities.
“Sorry, I’ve got to start focusing my energy on North Korea Nuclear, bad Trade Deals, VA Choice, the Economy, rebuilding the Military, and so much more, and not on the Rigged Russia Witch Hunt that should be investigating Clinton/Russia/FBI/Justice/Obama/Comey/Lynch etc.,” he wrote on Twitter.
