Right-wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos fears an Orwellian-style crackdown on free speech in Western societies, during in a wide-ranging interview with RT in London on Tuesday.
“At the barrel of a gun the government can tell you what words you are allowed to use and what jokes you’re allowed to make. Now, that’s the future that Orwell envisaged,” remarked Yiannopolous.
The former Breitbart editor and renowned polemicist did draw a distinction between the UK and US. Whereas government was in his view the main culprit in the ‘lost cause’ of Europe, Yiannopoulos instead blamed private citizens for limiting the right to free speech in North America.
Yiannopoulos, a British citizen domiciled in the US, had been visiting the UK ahead of last Sunday’s #DayofFreedom march.
