“East kalamun was occupied by the militants for a long time, and today, when our soldiers and the Russian military drove them out of here, we decided that we can no longer stand by. You see how many people came here today, nobody forced them , it is their personal desire. We understand that there are still places in Syria where militants have power, but we are not going to tolerate them anymore and we want this infection to be gone from country, “Muhammad Tukman, representative of the municipality of Ruhayb says.
On Wednesday, 25 April, Syrian army and the Russian military police entered the Eastern Kalamun, including such settlements as Dumayr, Jairud and Ruhayb. Previously, this territory was controlled by nine Islamist groups, including Jays al-Islam.
The territory of the enclave was abandoned by about 5,500 militants and members of their families. Leaving the Eastern Kalamun, the terrorists surrendered a large batch of armored vehicles to the Syrian troops – tanks, combat vehicles and also mortars, ammunition and self-made mines.
