Greek MPs approved the sale of several power plants in the country, which are part of the National Energy Company.
The privatization of companies occurred despite mass protests against this act, which trade unions define as a “national crime.” Most Greek MPs approved a bill that allows the National Energy Company to begin selling power plants within a month. The sale of companies is part of the terms of international creditors for the authorities in Athens.
During the debate and voting in the hall of the plenary session, several hundred people from the National Energy Company gathered in front of the parliament. This night the workers there announced they are stopping protests and strikes.
According to them, “the ruling coalition and MPs will be responsible for theft.”
“The government should not boast, because it will win the battle in parliament, but it will lose the war in the society,” the trade union of the National Energy Company said in a statement.
