UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura will be visiting Moscow on Friday, April 20, De Mistura’s Chief of Staff Michael Conte told TASS on Wednesday.
“Indeed Mr de Mistura will be meeting senior Russian officials in Moscow on Friday,” he noted.
Director of the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) in Geneva Alessandra Vellucci reported at Tuesday’s briefing that Staffan de Mistura is staying in Riyadh within a UN delegation headed by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The special envoy is taking part in a meeting on the war on terror and bilateral discussions, she noted.
Last time De Mistura visited Russia on March 29. He met with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The agenda focused on Syrian settlement issues: the establishment of a constitutional commission based of the outcome of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi, the Geneva talks, support for the ceasefire and humanitarian access to yet problematic areas of the Syrian Arab Republic.
