Turkey to hold snap elections on June 24

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his country will hold snap elections on June 24, 2018.

Moments after his meeting with the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) chairman, Devlet Bahceli, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced snap presidential and parliamentary polls.

“What we preferred was for the elections to be held in November 2019. Due to the military operations in Syria and the historical developments in the region, it is necessary that we overcome certain issues. So, in order to be able to make important decisions and implement them we need to move onto a new management system. We must take the election issue out of the current affairs. Together with Mr Bahceli we decided to hold snap elections on June 24, 2018”, Turkey’s head said.
