France calls for the creation of a separate budget for migrant-receiving cities

This was announced by president of France Emmanuel Macron, who delivered a speech this Tuesday at the European Parliament in Strasbourg

In particular, he called for the authority of democracy as opposed to authoritarian democracy. In doing so, he supported Germany’s proposal to resolve migrant crisis in Europe.

“The fierce debate over the so-called Dublin agreement and the redistribution of refugees in the EU needs to be overcome, so I propose to create a European program that will directly finance the cities and communes involved in the reception and integration of refugees,” he said.

Recall that the German government earlier advocated increased allocations from the EU budget for reception of refugees in cities and communes.

Berlin proposed to do this within the framework of reforming the multi-billion-dollar EU structural fund.

Due to disputes over quotas for the distribution of migrants, the EU countries have not been able to make progress in reforming the European asylum system since 2016. In his speech, Macron also called again for the creation of a separate budget for EU countries.

It is worth noting that Germany strongly rejects calls for a separate budget for 19 countries in the eurozone.
