Russia begins live fire exercises along Syria maritime borders

This was reported by Interfax citing sources at Ministry of Defence. The report says that live fire exercises will be held as well coordinates for the closed area.

The training area, located in the international waters of the Mediterranean, is adjacent to the sea border of Syria. It will be closed on 11-12, 17-19 and 25-26 April from 10 to 18 Moscow time.

Presently, over 15 warships of the Russian Navy are involved as a part of the Black Sea fleet, including frigates “Admiral Grigorovich” and “Admiral Essen”, carrying “Calibr” missiles. Submarines currently deployed to strike against terrorist targets in the region will also be involved.

Earlier on Tuesday it was reported that the US Navy missile destroyer USS “Donald Cook” has closed to a distance of almost 100km to the Russian base in Syrian Tartus. The second US missile destroyer USS “Porter” will also join USS “Donald Cook” but according to experts it will be no earlier than 16th of April.
