By spreading false stories about the use of poisonous substances by the Syrian army, Washington is trying to justify the terrorists and find an excuse for new attacks on government forces, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“Another such fabricated information about the alleged chemical attack in Douma appeared yesterday, with references to the notorious NGO White Helmets, which has been repeatedly caught in a clash with terrorists,” the Russian diplomatic department noted.
The Foreign Ministry also indicated that such “dangerous provocations” play into the hands of forces that refused to participate in the truce.
On Sunday, the head of the Russian Center for the reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Major-General Yury Yevtushenko, said that the falsehoods about the use of chemical weapons in Eastern Ghouta were aimed at disrupting the SAR’s operation to withdraw the “Jaish al-Islam” militants from the city of Douma.
At the same time it became known that members of this group appealed to Damascus with a request for negotiations. This happened against the backdrop of massive attacks by government troops on militant formations, which became a response to the shooting of the humanitarian corridor in Muhayam Al-Wafidin on Friday.
