EU countries which do not agree with the policy of sanctions against the Russian Federation should muster up courage and resort to the right of veto in the European Council, the deputy chairman of the European Parliament (EP), a prominent figure in the influential Italian “5 Stars” Movement Fabio Massimo Castaldo said.
“We are convinced that these sanctions have not played any positive role in moving towards a pragmatic resolution of the disagreements that have arisen between the EU and the Russian Federation. We believe that it is necessary to re-launch a frank negotiation process in which both sides would sincerely state about their interests in the game and about mutual positions, so that the final de-escalation of the conflict in Ukraine could also be promoted,” he said.
According to the prominent politician, the sanctions only caused a huge damage to trade relations between the EU and Russia, as well as to the small and medium-sized enterprises in Italy and Europe in general.
