Ukraine: Hundreds rally in Kiev against Poroshenko

 

Hundreds of people rallied in Kiev on Friday, to demand the resignation of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

Protesters gathered in Shevchenko Park, where celebrations for the 204th anniversary of the birth of poet Taras Shevchenkoof were taking place, and the participation of Poroshenko was expected.

Strong security was seen around all the park area. The area was cordoned off and metal detectors were deployed along three entrances, local media reported.

Reportedly, several people managed to enter the park and Poroshenko was not able to lay flowers at the poet’s monument as planned.

Demonstrators chanted against the government and held banners that read “Poroshenko – is not my president,” “Mafia Poroshenko – the death penalty.”
