Spiegel: Hackers who attacked servers in Germany stole documents on Brexit and Ukraine

The hackers who carried out a cyber attack on the government network of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2017, among others, stole one protocol of negotiations between the European Union and Great Britain on Brexit. This was reported on Saturday by German weekly Der Spiegel.

In addition, according to the journal, cybercriminals have downloaded data on the EU’s negotiations with Ukraine and Belarus. However, by the time the German side was already aware of hacking activity and deliberately did not block access to these documents, because they did not have secret information. There are no other details on this score.

A total of six documents were stolen, Der Spiegel writes.

In late February it became known that the attack was committed in 2017. As reported, cybercriminals were able to introduce malicious software into the servers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of Germany.
