Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz called on the European Union to react to the US intention to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum so that Washington could rethink its position and abandon the “idiotic venture.”
“It would be better if we avoided this (American tariffs). If necessary, a reaction will follow, which, we hope, will lead to a rethinking in the United States and this idiocy could be abandoned”, he said.
Donald Trump announced on the intention to introduce increased import tariffs on steel and aluminum on March 1.
In response, the European Union threatened to impose fees on a number of American goods. Trump said that the US would easily win a trade war and that “trade wars are sometimes good.”
