The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that Western states use accusations of using chemical weapons as a pretext for violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
“During the counter-terrorist operation to liberate the countryside in the province of Hama, government forces found more than 40 tons of chlorine gas. The discovery occurred in the presence of UN inspectors on chemical weapons,” the statement of the Syrian Foreign Ministry said.
“The UN Convention and the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons were informed about trucks with poisonous substances entering the country and about the terrorist reserves of gas Sarin in the province of Idlib,” the statement follows.
“The Syrian Arab Republic has repeatedly confirmed the absence of any type of chemical weapons in its arsenal. This shows that Syria is on the protection of its citizens.”
Earlier, Russia denied allegations that the Syrian government uses chemical weapons, stressing that only an international body has the right to give an opinion on this issue, based on an “impartial investigation.”
Recall that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has repeatedly conducted inspections, and each time the answer was negative: “Syria has no chemical weapons.”
