Speaking at the solemn meeting of the parliament of the self-proclaimed “Republic of Kosovo”, Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama announced the idea of combining foreign policy, as well as choosing a common president.
“Albania and Kosovo will have a joint foreign policy, not just embassies and diplomatic missions, and why should not we have one president as a symbol of unity and a common national security policy,” Rama said.
He explained that this initiative is not feasible in the very near future, but this is what he dreams about. However, to begin with, Albania and Kosovo will create a customs system in the framework of regional cooperation.
According to the prime minister, Albania and Kosovo are formally two divided territorial units, but they form part of a common historical process, national self-awareness and political interests.
Edi Rama’s statements regarding Kosovo have already been followed with a reaction from Belgrade. Deputy Nenad Popovic made a proposal to declare Albanian Prime Minister persona non grata in Serbia.
