Rod Rosenstein: ‘Russian meddling’ not alleged to alter 2016 election outcome

Rod Rosenstein, US’s Deputy Attorney General, discussed the details of the indictments of Russian nationals and entities in alleged US election meddling in Washington DC on Friday.

“There is no allegation in the indictment,” Rosenstein clarified, “that the charged conduct altered the outcome of the 2016 election.”

Rosenstein outlined the details of the alleged conspiracy known as project Lacta and added that no American citizens were knowingly part of the project.

The indictment has charged thirteen Russian nationals and three Russian companies for committing federal crimes while seeking to interfere in the United States’ political system including the 2016 presidential election.
