Russian Foreign Ministry: Reports of hundreds of dead Russians in Syria are disinformation

Reports of hundreds or tens of dead Russians in Syria are misinformation. This was stated on Wednesday by a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“Reports by a number of Western media about hundreds, dozens of dead in Syria are a classic misinformation,” – the source said.

Last week, the CBS TV-channel issued a statement that Russian citizens were part of the Syrian pro-government forces, who allegedly attacked the headquarters of the “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF) on February 7 near the village of Hashsham in the Syrian province of Deir ez Zor. A coalition led by the United States conducted an air strike at these pro-government forces.

As the Russian Ministry of Defense stated earlier, Syrian militiamen came to the province of Deir ez Zor on February 7 under fire from the coalition because of actions uncoordinated with the Russian military. As a result of the incident, 25 militiamen were wounded. There are no Russian servicemen in the area, the Defense Ministry specified.
