About 800 women who joined ISIS detained in Syria

About 800 women who joined ISIS were detained along with their children in Kurdish areas in northern Syria, the DPA reports with reference to the German newspaper Welt.

The publication quotes a specialist on terrorism from the human rights organization Human Rights Watch, according to which among 800 women there are 15 Germans. He met and talked with women in January. They and their children are kept in several camps.

“These women are in a very difficult situation,” Nadim Hury said. “Especially for young children, the conditions are not very good,” the expert said.

According to him, women are from 40 countries, including Canada, France, Great Britain, Turkey and Australia.

They want to return home, even if it means criminal prosecution against them, he said.

Hury urged European governments to allow children to return.
