Schulz on coalition talks with CDU/CSU

Social Democratic Party (SPD) leader Martin Schulz announced that “great progress” had been made in coalition talks with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU), speaking in Berlin on Wednesday.

“I just agreed with Mr. Seehofer and Mrs. Merkel to clarify in their name that we have made great progress. As parties, we are ready, we will build a government and lead it in a way as a ‘fresh start’ for Europe,” said Schulz.

Furthermore, Schulz reiterated the parties’ joint pro-European outlook on dealing with domestic matters, but also the necessity of forming strong partnerships with EU member states, such as France and Poland.
