Turkey’s decision to launch an operation “Olive branch” that began in the Syrian settlement of Afrin should have emphasized the geopolitical component of the ongoing hostilities. In ancient times, the olive branch personified the symbol of peace, and Ankara is convinced that by defeating the Kurdish forces from the “People’s Protection Units” (YPG) and the “Democratic Union” (PYD), it will provide peace of mind, both in the border areas of Turkey and Syria.
“Two years ago, when Assad was completely on the brink of defeat, and we were just starting to sweep ISIS, the Kurds decided to bet on an American horse,” military expert, Vladislav Shurygin points.
He writes that the Kurds reckoned on: “We are not enemies with the Russians, have an armed neutrality with the Syrians, the Turks are enemies, but for the time being we do not touch them, but while we along with the Americans are eliminating ISIS, for which we’ll receive nice benefits and our independence will be supported”.
However, one should not forget, that the Kurds have an eternal war with each other. There is not a single Kurdistan in sight, the expert stresses.

And now, suddenly, it turned out that the Russians have betrayed the Kurds”, Shurygin demonstrates how immediately there was an occasion to accuse Russia.
“For two years Kurds have heard – they will let you down. They waived it off. They were offered to return to Syria and be protected. They gave everyone the finger. And what do we have in the end? Yes, now it’s a pity for ordinary people, whom their stupid leaders sent to a meat grinder. But have we something to do with it? We must now start a war with the Turks because of the Kurds? Why the hell?!”
