USA: Senate to vote at noon on end of govt. shutdown

The US government shutdown rolled into its third day on Monday, as Senate members failed to reach a deal on funding and to what extent young ‘Dreamers’ should be protected from deportation.

After hours of debate, Republican and Democrat senators were unable to reach a compromise to end the shutdown that started on Friday. The deadline on deciding on a bill to reopen the government and to fund it has now been pushed back to Monday, with the meeting starting at 10:00 and the vote being held at noon.
