EBU: Russia’s refusal to broadcast the Olympic Games will violate the “expectations of sponsors”

The head of the press service of the European Broadcasting Union, Claire Rheinford, spoke about the consequences of Russia’s possible refusal to broadcast the next year’s Olympic Games.

Rainford confessed that she feared a possible refusal of the Russian Federation to broadcast the Olympic Games. Before that, the Russian side openly stated that if the IOC won’t allow the national team before the Olympics in Pyeongchang, the TV channels will refuse to broadcast events.

According to the head of the press service, this can seriously affect the promotion of Olympic values. But the most important thing is that it seriously violates the “expectations of sponsors”. This situation can not suit the EBU, because of which the IOC will conduct additional negotiations.

Currently, details of the contract with the IOC and possible sanctions for refusing broadcasts for Russia have not yet been disclosed. Rainford promised that soon the issue will be settled in the interests of sports.
