“No Russia, no Games”: Flashmob in support of Russian national team kicks off on the web

Student from St. Petersburg Roman Starkov launched flashmob in support of Russian athletes #noRUSSIAnoGAMES.

Everything started with a video message from the mother of the famous Russian skier Max Vylegzhanin, who was suspended for life by the IOC from participating in the Olympic Games. Roman, himself engaged in skiing and dreaming of becoming a professional athlete, together with his father wrote a post-appeal and posted a video on his “VKontakte” page. The community in support of Russian athletes supported the idea.

Network users picked up the hashtag, the action was supported by the head of Udmurtia Alexander Brechalov, the host of the TV channel “Match TV” Dmitry Guberniev and other celebrities. For four days, the video gained about 700,000 views.

Roman Starkov did not expect such a reaction in social networks. According to him, everyone is engaged in sports in his family and worry about the national team, that’s why they came up with such a flashmob.

The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee should decide on the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympics in Pyeongchang on December 5.
