Russia may reduce military presence in Syria

The statement comes in the wake of the liberation of over 90 percent of the Syrian territory from terrorists.

Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov has announced that Moscow may reduce military presence in Syria.

Earlier this week, Russian senior official said that the fight against the Daesh in Syria would be completed by the year-end and Russia would be able to withdraw its Aerospace Forces.

On November 21, Syrian leader Bashar Assad paid a one-day visit to Russia to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and meet with the leadership of the Defense Ministry and the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. The leaders of the two countries noted the quick defeat of terrorists in Syria, and also discussed the principles of holding the Syria national dialogue congress in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi.

The Syrian leader noted that the aerial support provided by the Russian Aerospace Forces had been key to resolving the conflict in Syria.
