Six long-range Tu-22M3 bombers launched a group air strike on the so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) targets the city of Abu-Kemal in the province of Deir ez-Zor, on Wednesday, according to the Russian Ministry of Defence.
The bombers reportedly took off from Russian territories and targeted militant strongholds and warehouses with ammunition and weapons.
The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that during the air strike of Tu-22M3, the planes were covered with Su-30SM fighters from the airfield Khmeimim.
