At least 40 servicemen have been killed in an attack targeting a military base in Afghanistan’s Kandahar Province, local media report.
The attack happened when two suicide bombers in Humvees targeted a military base in the Maiwand district of Kandahar, Tolo News television channel reported, citing a source.
Sources have confirmed to Tolo news that at least 43 soldiers have been killed, 9 injured and 6 remain unaccounted for following the attack on the Maiwand army base.
Four soldiers remain unaccounted for following the attack, Pajwok Afghan News reported.
According to Ariana News, the militants carried out attacks using two Humvees, stolen from local security forces.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, Al Jazeera reported.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense has confirmed the attack on the military base, the country’s 1TV reported.
