Israeli military aircraft destroy air defense battery in Syria

After a missile was fired at Israeli jets from the Syrian territory while being on a routine aerial reconnaissance mission in Lebanese airspace, the country’s Air Force has responded by conducting a strike in Syria, according to the IDF.

The Israeli Air Force has destroyed an anti-aircraft battery east of the Syrian capital of Damascus after shelling from the country’s territory, the Israeli army said.

The move came after Israeli jets were targeted with a missile from the Syrian territory, while being at a routine reconnaissance mission over Lebanon, the IDF said. No people were injured in the incident, the planes returned safely.

The IDF blamed the Syrian government for the incident, however, presenting no proof to support the claim. Damascus is yet to comment on the situation.

“The IDF maintains its ability to thwart hostilities against Israeli civilians,” the Israeli Defense Forces stated.
