South Tyroleans demanded dual Italian and Austrian citizenship during a protest at the Brenner Pass border crossing, on Sunday.
Werner Neubauer, a Member of the National Council for the Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) and South Tyrol spokesperson, made an address at the demonstration. “Even in Europe, they believe that there could still be communities with fascist remnants in Italy. That would be like having the possibility of pictures of Adolf Hitler lying around in Austria,” he stated.
SOT, Werner Neubauer, FPO National Councilor and South Tyrol spokesperson (German): “Even in Europe, they believe that there could still be communities with fascist remnants in Italy. That would be like having the possibility of pictures of Adolf Hitler lying around in Austria. The EU answered us ‘That doesn’t concern us.’ That is an inner-city, Italian possibility, my ladies and gentlemen. And that is really one of the next scandals.”
SOT, Stephan Liensberg, local citizen (German): “Yes, I hold the dual citizenship. I come from Brenner, so the vote in Austria is definitely a good sign for us, for us Tyroleans, that we can return to our homeland as Austrians and can go back to our rightful home.”
SOT, Massimo Pasqualini, Trento citizen (Italian): “We are here to defend the history of our Tyrol region. We always have been Tyroleans. We would like to unite our Tyrol region.”
