NATO is expressing concern that an army may appear in the self-proclaimed “Republic of Kosovo”. The relevant commentary is broadcast today in Belgrade “Evening News”.
“We are concerned about the proposal to transform the Kosovo security forces into armed forces without constitutional changes,” the report says.
In Kosovo, the issue of army formation again became one of the most relevant for local politics after the first constituent session of the parliament was held. This proposal is actively promoted, in particular, by former field commanders, and now leaders of the coalition of PAN, which won elections.
Serbia is categorically opposed the creation of Kosovo army, while in the Kosovo parliament the Serb List party, in Belgrade, has repeatedly stated that Kosovo’s presence of its army is contrary to UN Resolution 1244.
