Spain: Police leave CUP headquarters after 8 hour standoff with Catalans

Catalonian protesters rejoiced outside of the CUP (Candidatura d’Unitat Popular) headquarters in Barcelona, after Spanish security forces stood down and departed from an eight hour standoff, Wednesday.

SOT, Nuria Gibert, spokesperson of the National Secretariat of the CUP (Catalonian): “We do not know why this police operation has taken place. When our deputies approached the officers to find out what they were doing, or what they are looking for, or what they wanted, they did not reply. They have denied to speak or to return so much as a word, so at this time we do not know yet what they want, or what they are looking for. We know that they have tried to enter without judicial order and that they are not allowed – which is normal.”
