German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged her supporters to head to the polls on election day in two weeks’ time at a rally in Mainz as her rivals took a major blow, Thursday.

So long as you don’t talk about one another, you don’t develop prejudices. So long as you don’t hold prejudices, then you don’t stir hatred. And we know how quickly hatred turns into violence. Therefore, talk to one another. Work with one another. Get to know one another. Visit and study with one another in Europe. That was the best way to ensure we have lived in peace this century, and it will continue to be the best way if we are to do so for another century. It is worth fighting for Europe. Strenghtening Europe means strengthening Germany and living in peace. That is worth so much in this world.”
