Showcasing the political intuition for which he is renowned, Ukrainian President Poroshenko decided to use his airtime at a new children’s hospital to tell kids they had it all wrong:
New Years, Christmas and Easter are over-rated.
This guy doesn’t seem to possess an awfully strong religious sensibility.
Leaving aside the issue of bumming out sick kids, broadcasting a lack of understanding of these holidays are in overwhelmingly Christian Ukraine may not be a super smart move.
According to ukrinform.ua.
Ukrainian Independence Day is becoming an increasingly more significant holiday from year to year, more important than New Year’s, Nativity, and Pascha, according to President Petro Poroshenko, speaking at the opening of a children’s building of the regional hospital in the city of Kropyvnytskyi in the central Ukrainian province of Kirovohrad.
“From year to year, Independence Day is becoming a holiday ever greater and even more important than the New Year, Christmas and Easter.
It marks our repeated birth, the resurrection of our dreams, and the novelty of our state,” Poroshenko said.
Great, he even tried to appropriate Christ’s birth and resurrection.
In any case, his speech shows that the Ukrainian president thinks raising national spirit is way more important than strengthening Christianity.
And really?
Have some tact, man.
