Syrian government troops with the support of the Russian Air Forces defeated the ISIS* fighters in the Euphrates River valley in the Ganem Ali district of the province of Raqqa.
As a result of the operation, the “most combat-ready” grouping of ISIS* was liquidated in this region. During the fighting, 13 tanks, 39 pick-ups with large-caliber machine guns, nine mortars and artillery guns were destroyed.
Now, government forces are conducting a “rapid offensive” along the eastern bank of the Euphrates towards the city of Deir ez Zor, which has been besieged by ISIS militants for several years.
The military conflict in Syria continues from 2011. In the fighting, government forces, oppositionists, radical Islamists, Kurds and other forces are taking part. A significant part of Syria is controlled by the ISIS militants.
