German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a rally alongside her sister party, the Bavarian-based Christian Social Union, in Bayreuth, on Thursday.
During her speech to an audience of hundreds, she commented on the methods for combatting the threat of terrorism. The Chancellor said, “We will only rid ourselves of this scourge of humanity when we exchange internationally, exchange information, with the USA, with the UK, with France and with the whole of Europe. Here, international cooperation is needed and is indispensable, and we need it.”
There was a group of the anti-immigration Alternative for Deutschland party (AfD) supporters at the rally, attempting to disrupt Merkel’s speech. They held up placards at the back of the crowd with slogans such as, “The AfD upholds what the CSU promises!”, “Merkel must go” and “Close borders!”
