USA: Protesters demand removal of fascist monument in Chicago

Protesters rallied to demand the removal of a fascist monument in Chicago’s Burnham Park on Wednesday, a gift to the city by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.

The Roman column, also known as the Balbo Monument, was presented by Mussolini to Chicago’s Mayor Edward Kelly in 1933, to commemorate aviation General Italo Balbo’s transatlantic flight from Rome to Chicago. The protesters are also calling for the renaming of ‘Balbo Drive’ that is named after the Italian general.
