The Russian bank was disconnected from SWIFT

Russian “Tempbank” was cut off from the international system for the exchange of financial data SWIFT. The reason for the cut-off is that the top management of the credit institution was on the list of anti-Russian sanctions of the United States. This is reported by the portal “Russian Spring” with reference to the source.

Employees of the bank came under sanctions because of the provision of trade operations with Iran and Syria. In particular, the Russian bank opened accounts with the Iranian central bank and a number of Syrian companies. The initiator of the disconnection of “Tempbank” from SWIFT was the human rights organization “Associations Against Iran’s Nuclear Program” (UANI).

In March 2017, the head of the Central Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina said that Russia is protected in case of a complete cut-off from the SWIFT system. According to the head of the regulator, the negative consequences in this scenario do not threaten the Russian economy.
